Astigmatism
The cornea is the window of the eye. The normal cornea is round and smooth shape. In astigmatism cornea is improperly curved. So astigmatism causes distorted vision, which is due to the uneven curvature of the cornea.
This irregularity causes deformed or blurred picture of near and distant object. Similarly, as seen in the defective mirror, where our image may be too high, too thick, too slim, short or flawed. Astigmatism may also be present in combination with myopia or hypermetropia.Light rays which are coming parallel to the eye, at the time of entering to the eye, are refracted so they're never merged at one point. Their aggregation is spread either from the retina, in the area of the retina or behind the retina, by which is possible to identify the type of astigmatism; short-sighted, far-sighted or mixed astigmatism. We can denote this by - Dsph cyl or + Dsph cyl in a particular axis.
It is usually present from birth, and with time is not getting worse.
